Accessibility Statement
Many of the people we restore photographs for are older, and we want this website to be genuinely easy for everyone to use — whatever device you’re on and whatever assistive technology you rely on.
We’ve built this site with reference to the internationally recognised Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, AA level, which are organised around four core principles — Perceivable, Operable, Understandable and Robust (POUR). Here is how each one shows up on this website.
Perceivable — information people can take in, however they browse
- Large, readable text throughout (19px base size), with a plain layout and generous spacing.
- High-contrast text colours, checked to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 or better for body text).
- Descriptive alt text on every meaningful photograph, so screen reader users know what each image shows; purely decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Information is never conveyed by colour alone — labels and text always back up any colour-coding.
- The site works just as well if you zoom the page in to 200% or more.
Operable — usable by keyboard, mouse, or touch
- Every button, link and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, including the before/after photo slider.
- A visible “Skip to main content” link and clear keyboard focus outlines for anyone navigating by keyboard.
- Big, clearly labelled buttons and touch targets, sized for easy tapping on a phone or tablet.
- The decorative scrolling filmstrip automatically switches off if your device is set to reduce motion, and pauses on hover or keyboard focus — nothing flashes or moves in a way that could cause discomfort.
- No task on the site is timed — take as long as you need on any page or form.
Understandable — plain language and predictable pages
- Plain, everyday language throughout, avoiding unnecessary jargon.
- A simple, consistent navigation menu in the same place on every page.
- Forms with clearly associated labels, helpful hint text, and confirmation or error messages that are announced automatically to screen readers.
- Clear instructions before you do anything important, such as uploading a photo or sending payment details.
Robust — works with the tools people already use
- Built with standard, semantic HTML5 so it works reliably with screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS.
- Tested across modern browsers and screen sizes, from small phones to large desktop monitors.
- No reliance on browser plug-ins or non-standard technology that could stop working over time.
